There are so many songs that are based on classical ragas.  We can have a long discussion on this topic.  In my opinion, the most common ragas used in Hindi films are the following:

1. Pahadi
2. Shivaranjani
3. Yaman
4. Bhairavi
5. Malkauns
6. Kirwani
7. Khamaj
8. Bihag
9. Bageshree
10. Darbari Kanada
11. Jog
12. Des
13. Bhoopali
14. Gurjari Todi
15. Sarang [mostly Brindavani Sarang]

Kirwani

1. Humen Tumse Pyar Kitna - Kishore Kumar (Film: Khudrat)
2. Yaad Na Jaaye - Mohd. Rafi (Film: Dil Diya Dard Liya)
3. O Basanti Pawan Pagal - Lata Mangeshkar (Film: Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behthi Hai)
4. Elle Iru Hege Iru - P Susheela (Film: Kasturi Nivasa)

Khamaj

Tere Mere Milan Ki Yeh Raina - Lata & Kishore (Film: Abhiman)
Naina Milaike - Sadhana Sargam, Madhushree (Film: Saathiya)

Jog

Chale Chalo - A. R. Rahman, Srinivas (Film: Lagaan)
(This shows how well A. R. Rahman uses ragas in a filmi framework)

Another great raga-laced Rahman song is "Chupke Se" from Saathiya.  One of my all time favorites.  In my opinion, this is one of the all time best songs ever composed.  Sadhana Sargam has done a great job singing it.  Saathiya is one of AR's masterpieces and it has a great mix of songs based on different genre.

You can find lot more information at these places (there are a few errors in these sites... but, still they make a good reference overall):
1. Hindi Film Songs Based on Ragas --> http://www.asavari.org/songs.html
2. Hindi Film Songs Based on Raags --> http://www.swarganga.org/hindisongs.php
3. HINDI FILM SONGS - based on Ragas --> http://www.sudeepaudio.com/filmsongs.htm

There are many more...  Talking about songs and ragas, I am reminded of Shivji elaborating on the songs from Silsila.  Three songs -- Sar Se Sarke Sar Ki Chunariya, Dekha Ek Khwab, and Neela Asman So Gaya -- are all set to Raga Pahadi but each of them has a totally different color.  The first one is very folk-like dance song, the second one is a romantic and energetic song, and the last one is full of pathos!  But all of them are Pahadi!  This is a great example how great our ragadhari system is.

I take a bow "Legendary HPR"

I am simply bowled over by this walking encyclopedia on Music a.k.a HPR

Can I meet you someday in my life.
Please let me know when you visit India - I am looking forward to meet you sir.
I am relocating to Hyderabad next month - I hope I can see you sometime soon.

BTW; please post them; I will try to collect all those songs, if they are old and really good - Then am sure my father will know them as well - who is a very good singer in his own right - so that I can at least request him to sing it for me.

Many many thanks in Advance,
Sumanth

Calling me "legendary"?  You must be kidding.  I am nowhere near being a walking encyclopaedia.  Look at the articles on sawf.org, written by Sri Rajan Parrikar.  He is one genius.  He has rendered an everlasting service to Indian classical fans by writing such detailed and authentic articles about Ragas.  The best thing is that he has enriched his articles with rare samples (streamed) and photographs.  I had the privilege of meeting him here in 2006, before he relocated to India for a year.  I hope he writes more.

Yes, all the songs I mentioned above are popular hits of yesteryears.  In the recent times, talented young flautist Parvin Godkhindi, seems to be reviving the old songs by playing them on the flute... there by brining film tunes and classical music together as a package.  I remember him playing the following songs:

1. Viraha Nooru Nooru Taraha [another Bhimpalasi gem by M Ranga Rao from the Puttanna Kanagal movie "Edakallu Guddada Mele", sung brilliantly by P Susheela]
2. Olume Poojegende [Raga Yaman, sung by the enchantress S Janaki]  Pravin calls it "Rangeela Kalyan"
3. Doni Saagali Munde Hogali [a great song by Kuvempu, set to raga Pahadi by the great composer Vijayabhaskar and sung by S Janaki)

Will add more...

BTW, good luck with your relocation to HYD.  I am coming to BLR in the first week of July, for a 6 week trip.  Hope to meet you.  BTW, after seeing your picture, I could recall the memories of 1996, when you had visited my house in Adarsh Gardens.  That was a great Satsanga program.
