I think Shivkumar Sharma is one of the most gifted Indian classical musicians.  What do you think?

One more here...

Bangalore: Eminent santoor virtuoso Pandit Shivkumar Sharma was on Monday conferred with ``Sangeeta Ratna Mysore T. Chowdiah'' award by President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

The award was bestowed on the eminent musician by the Academy of Music at the conclusion of the silver jubilee celebration of the construction of the violin-shaped Chowdiah Memorial Hall built in the memory of eminent Carnatic violinist T. Chowdaiah.

Dr. Kalam said he woke up every day at the Rashtrapathi Bhavan to the strains of the santoor from Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and said he had all the collections of the santoor wizard.

Speaking after receiving the award, Pandit Sharma said that music is beyond the barriers of religion, caste or creed and ushered in unity, harmony, peace and friendship in the country.

The award besides a citation, carries a prize money of Rs. 1 lakh and a gold chain.

The President later spent some time at the auditorium to hear the santoor recital of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma.

There's another interesting interview with Micheal Robinson in yesr 2000, where Shiviji revals nice info that he had played Tabla for Pt Ravi Shankar when he was young.
